Instructional materials that help students develop the critical thinking skills needed to determine the commercial feasibility of a new product, service or idea.
An important part of the Believe in Ohio program is the development of the critical thinking skills that students will need to determine the commercial feasibility of a new product, service or idea. This is accomplished by having students develop their idea through the vehicle of Believe in Ohio’s “Roadmap to Future Jobs and Prosperity”, which is a STEM focused critical thinking tool based on the concept of the Lean Business Model Canvas (which is taught as part of the curriculum of leading business schools around the world). To that end, two series of instructional materials are provided for teachers and instructors to use with their students:
1.) A five part Believe in Ohio program video series about how students can prepare for and develop a STEM Plan.
2.) A twelve part University of Akron video series which is a part of the curriculum of a 2016-2017 University of Akron online
course focused on STEM commercialization titled: “Introduction to Entrepreneurship”.
These online course and instructional materials were developed by Entrepreneurial Engagement Ohio (EEO) as part of the Believe in Ohio program.
Believe in Ohio is a program of The Ohio Academy of Science (OAS) that was collaboratively developed by OAS and EEO.

Believe in Ohio Five-Part Video Series - How to Prepare For and Develop a STEM Plan
Students may find it helpful to watch a series of short videos done by Believe in Ohio Co-Director John Klipfell that will walk them through the development of their STEM Plan using the “Ohio Roadmap to Future Jobs & Prosperity”. University of Akron “Introduction to Entrepreneurship” Supporting Video Lectures
As part of the curriculum of an University of Akron 2016-2017 online course titled “Introduction to Entrepreneurship” three credit hour course, a series of instructional videos were developed to help students understand Mileposts 1 through 8 on the Ohio Roadmap to Future Jobs and Prosperity which is a critical thinking tool used in the course. In the videos, Dr. Brian Davis, Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Akron, Ms. Courtney Gras, a dynamic, young, accomplished entrepreneur, University of Akron graduate and one of Fortune Magazine’s 30 under 30 young entrepreneurs, and Believe in Ohio program entrepreneur Mr. John Klipfell, share their experiences and add perspective about Mileposts 1-8 on the Roadmap. Instructors and students will find these short videos instructive and are encouraged to view them. Teachers and instructors are also encouraged to download a copy of the course syllabus and to use as much or as little of it as they wish in developing their own curriculum.
