Alternative energy & photovoltaic materials & devices
Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Physics and Astronomy Department at The University of Toledo
Dr. Alvin Compaan is Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Physics and Astronomy Department at The University of Toledo. He has been leading a research effort for more than 25 years in thin-film photovoltaic materials and devices. His group has been funded by the National Renewable Energy Lab, the U.S. Dept. of Energy, the U.S. National Science Foundation, the U.S. Air Force, and the Ohio Department of Development. In addition, he has done collaborative research with many industrial groups in photovoltaics, including Pilkington, Solar Cells Inc., First Solar, Xunlight, Ascent Solar, and Calyxo USA. He holds several patents in the area of thin-film photovoltaics and has authored more than 250 scientific publications in professional journals. Recently Dr. Compaan with Dr. Xunming Deng co-founded Xunlight 26 Solar which is developing flexible, cadmium-telluride-based PV and transparent PV for window applications. Dr. Compaan holds an A.B. in Physics and Math from Calvin College, and both a M.S and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago.
